Just recently Bart Alsbrook, a former reserve officer, became the interim chief of police in Colbert, Okla.
Soon after, it turned out that his name was connected to a white supremacists’ site.
A hate map, published by the Southern Poverty Law Center in the wake of the Charlottesville, Va., Unite the Right rally, included a hategroup from Texoma, called ISD Records. The website had filed paperwork in 2004 with the signature of Bart Alsbrook.
A certificate of ownership for the site, which hocks racist and anti-Semitic merchandise and music, links it to Alsbrook, according to a KXII investigation. The site also featured an address and contact information for the former Colbert reserve police officer, the outlet reported. After being contacted by an investigator, ISD Records was taken offline.
Bart Alsbrook denied all allegations and claimed to have been involved in a fight with skinheads at a heavy metal concert in the 1990s. He claimed that then his wallet was stolen in the scuffle.
This isn't the first time he's been called out by the Southern Poverty Law Center. According to their site, Alsbrook was identified as the Texas coordinator of a skinhead group called Blood & Honour and the man behind a site called NS88.com. County records obtained by KXII suggest his name and address were again listed on the certificate of ownership for that particular site.
Alsbrook said that the allegations have ruined his life and that he plans to resign as interim chief and won’t continue as a reserve officer. Alsbrook wrote to the Tulsa World:
“Someone has been using my name for years on the Internet in regards to racist topics. It’s not me, rather someone who has hijacked my name due to my combativeness and rejection to white power skinheads who were always coming to the heavy metal shows, starting fights and messing up our scene,” he said.
Alsbrook said neo-Nazis in Dallas have been using his name since the mid-90s and that they hate each other.
Why didn’t he file a lawsuit against those who hijacked his ID? Why didn’t he do anything to distance himself from this mess? His excuses seem to be pretty weak and hard to believe.
