A woman brought her ill son to a walk-in clinic in Mississauga, Ontario. When she was invited to the doctor’s office, she saw that the doctor was black.
She stormed out of the office and demanded a “white doctor” instead. Her outbreak was recorded on video by a witness. "I would like to see a white doctor," the woman says at the beginning of the video, to a member of the clinic staff in the waiting room. Her son, who appears to be approximately eight years old, can be seen sitting quietly beside her. "You're telling me there's not one white doctor in this whole entire building?" she says.
Woman continues to complain: she says she had to wait for five and a half hours and the “brown doctor” didn’t help her child with his pain in the chest. She also claimed that the doctor didn’t know English and his “teeth were brown.”
Several people offered her to go into a hospital but the woman refused to do so and continued to swear and demand a white doctor. "Oh my God, what type of horrible country do I live in?" she says in the video. "Being a white person in this country, I should just shoot myself."
Later, she changed her mind and decided that there was no necessity in a white doctor. But she demanded “somebody Canadian.” Thanks God, nothing bad has happened, and the woman was simply escorted out of the clinic.
Hitesh Bhardwaj, who recorded the video in the waiting room, says the incident also shocked him. "Seeing it so openly, without any fear, in front of so many people, without even fearing that someone can report her – it was really shocking," he told CTV Toronto.
It turned out that it wasn’t the first racist outburst of the woman according to her neighbors.
No charges were filed against the woman.
Ignorance is not bliss.
