Few bad apples, indeed.
San Francisco police department is being investigated on charges of racism and fatal officer-involved shooting. The police officers are not simply waiting for their faith, they are doing everything to prove the commission wrong and show how tolerant they are. Oh, 15now, that is happening in a parallel universe.
In our universe, cops decided it would be okay to criticize the Black Lives Matter movement in the August issue of their local news paper.
In the August's issue of the San Francisco Police Officers Association Journal - on the back page of the journal – there is a photo of two Labrador retriever dogs. A black Labrador Retriever has a sign around its neck reading "Black Labs Matter" and a yellow Labrador Retriever with a sign reading "All Labs Matter," a reference to "All Lives Matter," a counter response to "Black Lives Matter." The picture is accompanied with the words: ‘Maybe it's time we all just sit back and tone down the rhetoric.’
The president of Officers for Justice, an organization for black officers and other officers of color for San Francisco police said that the photo ‘once again shows a severe lack of understanding.’ She says this photo only inflames the situation. And it’s obvious that she is right. Amazing, that other officers can’t see it.
Many times the Black Lives matter movement explained why ‘Black Lives Matter’ doesn’t claim ‘all other lives don’t matter.’ Even Barak Obama explained the difference. Yet, San Francisco cops decided to stay ignorant and post this offensive photo instead of communicating. Despite all the words they say on radio and TV about their hard efforts to build bridges between the community and the police their words never meet their deeds.
Police killings this year, including Alton Sterling, 558th person to be killed by police in 2016, continue to point out that issue and the relationship between police and communities. Statistics from 2015 showed young black men were nine times more likely to be killed by police. I know there are people who always disagree with statistics, especially when it shows the truth about racist cops. But facts are facts!
The issued photo is being questioned as racist, too, during the investigation.
Don’t be like SF police, don’t be blind and stubborn! Open your eyes and see the difference!
